HTML Password Lock wizard will guide you secure
your web pages and whole web site in just a few clicks. Now,
Let's learn how to password protect your first html file step
by step.
Step 1 Select html files to protect.
Click "Add file"
button, then select your html file. In the current version,
the file to be protected MUST be on the local hard disk. You
can upload the protected file to the web server after the protection.

Step 2 Select password type, and then define user/password.
In this step, you can select password type: single password
or multi-user/password.
For single password type, type a password for the files, or
you can click
button to generate a random password; for multi-user/password,
define user/password list. You can save the users information
to a text file by clicking
button, and then you can load the users information from the
saved text file by clicking
button.

Step 3 Select protection type and options.
Select desired options.

Step 4 Select a template file to customize the color
and layout style of the login page.
You can click "Preview" to view the selected login
template. You can also customize the login page with your own
template file. For how to make and use a template file, please
view How to customize the look of
the login page with a template file? for details.
The selected template file MUST be on the local computer.

Step 5: Click "Lock" button to password protect
files.
After clicking "Lock" button, the protected files
with be listed in the list box. You can double-click the
file, open it with the web browser, and have a test.

After protection, the file with the original file name will
be protected, and the original un-protected file will backup
as *.PreLock at the same directory.
Suppose you have a file named "c:\test\member.htm".
After protection, the file "c:\test\member.htm" will
be protected, and the original un-protected file will be saved
as "c:\test\member.htm.PreLock".
To un-lock the file, you can delete the file "c:\test\member.htm",
and rename file "c:\test\member.htm.PreLock" to "c:\test\member.htm".
You can also do this with the software. Please refer to the
FAQ: How to un-lock files with
the software?
Suggestion:
You should backup your original file carefully, such as in a
backup directory. Or you can copy your html files to a new directory,
and lock the html files in the new directory. In this way, you
need not do un-lock processing to get the un-protected files.
Last step: Upload the protected file to your web server
Test the protected file on the local hard disk, and then upload
the protected file to your web server.
But please do NOT upload the *.PreLock file to your web server,
that's just the backup file.
